Teachers' Resources

Our Four Steps to Help Programme has been developed to contain everything needed to provide a comprehensive mental health awareness and suicide prevention course that is suitable for students 16+.

The programme includes:

  • A video presentation, "Let's Talk about Mental Health" presented by John Sharpson, that can be played to classes using a web browser and projector Available Now
  • A 28 page Student Booklet for each student attending a workshop (now in eco-friendly PDF format for download)
  • A Teachers’ Handbook which provides in depth information and risk assessments for teachers and youth workers (now in eco-friendly PDF format for download).
  • A set of 7 lesson plans which the schools can use to build on the programme workshops (now in eco-friendly PDF format for download).
  • A Press and Media Pack which covers responsible reporting of suicide particularly youth suicide which carries a higher risk of copycat suicides amongst peers (now in eco-friendly PDF format for download).
  • A full script of the facilitators' prepared presentation (now in eco-friendly PDF format for download)
  • Access to Free2Text Crisis Information Service

All our schools materials are available for reading online or download through our Yumpu Portal HERE

The presentation by our facilitators is central to the whole programme as it provides the basis for further discussion and reading. So, as part of the programme, each student can take a 28 page presentation booklet which has all the presentation slides as well as background materials and further reading.

This can be combined with the Lesson Plans that we provide which build on the presentation and student booklet. The lesson plans accompanying the programme are broken down into:

  • LESSON 1: Developing a Compassionate Attitude toward Suicide and Its Victims
  • LESSON 2: Acquiring Knowledge about Suicide
  • LESSON 3: Developing An Awareness Of The Signs Of Suicide
  • LESSON 4: Developing Active Listening Skills
  • LESSON 5: Our Support System – Fictional Situations
  • LESSON 6: Learning To Cope
  • LESSON 7: Reducing Stress
